My regards to lazarus.su (in Russian). It’s 1st April post was:
Lazarus developers announced that the IDE source code is closed and sold to Embarcadero. Under the unconfirmed information the last Lazarus version 0.9.30 will become the base for the next Delphi release – FPC Edition.
Lazarus team was forced to make this step due to lack of sponsorship. They can’t continue to work on the project. On the other hand, by acquiring Lazarus code the Embarcadero is hoping to release the long-awaited Delphi versions for Linux and 64-bit platforms.
‘the last Lazarus version 0.9.30 will become the base for the next Delphi release – FPC Edition’
In their dreams…
Sadly this is not a joke!
I can confirm that this is true.
The Lazarus team was forced to this move also for a patenting issue that sees Lazarus as infringing some core patents of Embarcadero.
As of last Friday I was employed again by Embarcadero and my new job has a lot to do with demonstrating those patent infringements.
As soon as I will have some news I’ll post back here the relevant facts.
Cheers, Nick Hodges
Nick,
we are not in first of April anymore. Please tell me you are not serious. o.o”
Well, unrealistic joke, noone would have believed it (but the lack of sponsorship)
I hope the bugs of Lazarus will never enter holy Delphi. Not that lazarus isn’t a good project but for delphi it would be like a 10-step-back.
Lazarus is dead, they don’t have money and the IDE is terrible
